Members Present:  Hoyle Leigh (Chair), Jon Streltzer (Secretary, ICPM), Don Lipsitt (Advisory Board, ICPM), Antonio Barbosa (Portugal), Asbjorn O. Faleide (Norway), Akira Naito (UK & Japan), Seth Powsner (USA)

The meeting was called to order by Hoyle Leigh at 5 PM in room 403 of the International Congress Center, Kobe, Japan during the 18th World Congress on Psychosomatic Medicine.  Dr. Streltzer, Secretary of ICPM, gave a report of the website activity on behalf of Gary Belcher, webmaster and assistant to the Secretary. Dr. Leigh noted that the ICPM website has developed considerably during the past two years thanks to Gary Belcher, to which all members agreed.  Following active discussion about future directions of the website and the committee, the following items were resolved unanimously.

  1. The website should have a News Bulletin for anyone who visits the website, updated frequently, that should be managed by Gary Belcher under the Secretary’s supervision.
  2. The News Bulletin should include recent/current publications of members, with links to an Abstract Section that includes the email address of the member and the original publication (hypertext pointing to the PubMed citation)
  3. The membership corner should be activated as soon as possible, which would be accessed by members only through a password, that should have a list of all members and their contact information, particularly the email addresses in hypertext.  In addition, there could be news and discussion items for members only, such as proposed amendments to the Constitution, Bylaws, etc.
  4. The Chair of the Internet Committee is to request the Chairs of the Kobe Congress for the Abstracts of the Congress in digital form for posting on the ICPM website.
  5. The Committee requests that the Secretary of ICPM make use of the two pages of the Journal of Psychosomatic Research allocated to ICPM news with current news gleaned/abstracted from the web News Bulletin, and that the Journal section should display the ICPM website link prominently.
  6. The ICPM website should have links to national and international psychosomatic organizations such as the European Psychosomatic Association, and the committee requests that the Secretary of ICPM formally request the organizations that will have links from our website to include links to ICPM on their websites.
  7. The Internet Committee would like to expand so that there would be members in each continent, and in as many geographic regions as possible.  The members of Executive and Advisory Boards as well as Internet Committee members are asked to recommend/nominate such persons.  The members of the Internet Committee agreed to monitor the website frequently, and make recommendations about any improvements or problems.
  8. The membership list and the contents of the website should be located both in the Secretariat and in the office of the Chair of the Internet Committee to maintain backup redundancy.

The meeting adjourned at 6 PM.

Respectfully submitted,

Hoyle Leigh, M.D., Chair, Internet Committee, Professor of Psychiatry, University of California, San Francisco
